Alicia Lázaro loves nothing more than her two pets. Her cat, Maverick, and her dog, Zowy, seem to always get themselves into trouble over competing with each other for all sorts of things, including affection and treats.
Although the pets get along just fine, their rivalry fuels them to get up to all sorts of different antics. Alicia didn’t know it yet, but Maverick was about to get up to some mischief observing Zowy.
On a day like any other, Alicia decided to go for a walk. It was when they got back that she noticed something strange about Zowy. She seemed far from her normal happy-go-lucky self. Alicia was determined to find out what was going on.
Taking A Look
She decided to take a look at her dog, and after a bit of investigation, Alicia found that Zowy was limping. After examining her leg, she checked her paw to see if she could find the cause of her dog’s discomfort.
That’s when Alicia spotted the culprit. After taking a look, she saw a thorn stuck in her paw. It surely caused little Zowy a lot of grief. Without hesitation, the dog’s mom acted quickly to get the irritating thorn out so that things could return to normal.
With a little bit of effort, the thorn was removed, and little Zowy seemed relieved. Alicia was happy to help her pet. But she wasn’t aware that her cat, Maverick, had watched the entire exchange.
Unbeknownst to his owner, he was developing a scheme based on what he had seen. He thought that he could get similar attention to Zowy.
Maverick’s Plan
After Alicia made sure that Zowy was okay, she turned around to see where Maverick was. But when she found him, she noticed that his behavior was also completely out of the ordinary.
Maverick was doing the exact same thing Zowy was doing moments before. He now had a limp as well. She hadn’t noticed it before Zowy’s limp. It couldn’t have been a coincidence, could it? She wondered what was going on. She checked on Maverick now, trying to understand what was going on.
After examining his paw, things felt bizarre. Maverick had no thorn like Zowy and nothing else looked wrong with it either. That’s when Alicia realized what was going on.
Faking It
Alicia told The Dodo, “I looked at his paw and saw there was nothing wrong with him. He was putting on a show.” It seemed that Maverick thought that he could get one over on his owner and get some attention, too.
While Maverick was all too keen on taking advantage of the situation, Zowy is content without needing to put on a show. Since the thorn was removed, the little dog hasn’t limped at all.
The same can’t be said for Maverick. The cat is proud of his new trick and puts on a limp every now and then, most likely trying to score some food or sympathy from Alicia.
Loving Her Pets
While Alicia can clearly see through his tricks, that doesn’t mean she isn’t going to fall for his charm. She still likes to spoil both of her pets. That includes Maverick after he puts on a show and pretends to limp around the house.
The two animals will always have a rivalry when competing for Alicia’s affection, but at the end of the day, they’ve been seen to enjoy each other’s company.
Maybe when they aren’t competing, they secretly like the affection of one another. Alicia has said that she loved her pets very much and has no idea what she would do without them.
