When will I get kindness in the animal Kingdom? As an animal behavior, we have to remember that we are looking at it through the perspective of our human lens. Most animals are motivated by instinct and survival, leaving little room for other behaviors that we consider to be altruistic in nature.

Yet more and more scientific research shows that animals, especially mammals, are capable of so much more than just hunting. They are capable of empathy and other behaviors we have never thought about. Whether it is through their social structure or the unexpected gentleness of nature, we are going to explore the kindest mammals in the US.

1. Manatee

These gentle giants of the water are affectionately known as ‘sea cows.’ They are easily recognizable and one of the US’s most beloved mammals. They are found in the warm coastal waters of Florida as well as all along the Gulf Coast. Their reputation precedes them as they are calm, curious, and gentle creatures.

They are non-aggressive because as it is known manatees have no natural predators so they have a trusting disposition towards humans. If they are a part of an ecosystem, it is an excellent indicator that that ecosystem is a healthy one. They can be pretty elusive, but they are carnivores to look out for.
