
There are hundreds of recognized dog breeds, all bred for a specific purpose. Unfortunately, in the modern world, many breeds have less of a place.
Many dog breeds that are now banned are considered to be unpredictable or aggressive, even when they were bred to be this way. Most countries that do ban breeds band the Fila Brasileiro, the Dogo Argentino, and many more. Here’s each banned breed by country.
1. United Kingdom

The United Kingdom has laws prohibiting the ownership of certain dogs. These dogs are the Japanese tosa, the pit bull terrier, the Dogo Argentino, the Fila Brasileiro, and the American XL bully. Here’s a more complete list of the UK’s laws surrounding dogs.
2. Germany

Germany had banned ownership of the following: the American Staffordshire, the terrier, the bull terrier, the pit bull terrier, and the Staffordshire bull terrier.
With the right paperwork, there are exceptions. Dogs visiting the country for less than 4 weeks and service dogs are allowed.
3. Canada

Although Canada doesn’t have any laws against owning any breed of dog, depending on the province, they have local laws against certain dogs. Manitoba and Ontario both have banned the ownership of the following: American pit bull terriers and American Staffordshire terriers.
4. Saudi Arabia

Of all the countries with bans on dogs, Saudi Arabia has the biggest ban list with a whopping 11 banned breeds including all terrier breeds. The banned breeds are the English bulldog, Affenpinscher, boxer, rottweiler, Newfoundland, Japanese spitz, great dane, Brussels griffon, Leonberger, akita inu.
5. Australia

Australia is more concerned about which breeds are commonly used in dog fighting rings. These breeds are pit bull terrier, Perro de Presa, Canario, Perro de Presa Canario, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, and the Japanese tosa.
6. Spain

Spain has no bans on any single dog breed, but it does have restrictions on certain dogs. The country has a list of potentially dangerous breeds that need paperwork to own – pit bull terrier, rottweiler, Staffordshire bull terrier , American Staffordshire terrier, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, tosa inu, and the akita inu.
7. France

In France, they have two lists for dog breeds. A restricted and a banned list. The rottweiler and similar breeds are considered protection breeds and must go through proper training. These dogs are on the banned list – Staffordshire terrier, pit bull terrier, tosa inu, and the boerbull mastiff.
8. Denmark

Denmark has a list of 13 banned dogs. The banned dogs are the pit bull terrier, tosa inu, American Staffordshire terrier, Fila Brasileiro, Dogo Argentino, American bulldog, Boerbull, Kangal, Central Asian shepherd dog, South Russian shepherd dog. Sarplaninac, caucasion shepherd dog, and the tornjak.
9. United States

The United States of America doesn’t have any legislation that bans any dog breeds. However, just like Canada, there are many different state or county laws that have different legislation. There are around 1000 different cities and towns in America that have different rules for owning dog breeds.
