Dogs are spread across the United States and try their best to be the most incredible companions they can. However, not all states are equal when it comes to dog friendliness. From things like the number of parks available to services like vets and dog groomers, we’ve ranked some dog-friendly states from best to worst
1. Vermont
It’s no surprise Vermont is one of the friendliest dog states, given how much it has to offer our canines. From countless outdoor locations with plenty of activities to dog-dedicated parks, the state really does love pooches.
2. Rhode Island
Rhode Island has a high score because it offers many dog-friendly activities and services. From the number of parks to vets and groomers, they have everything to suit your dog’s needs. Rhode Island also is one of the states to have laws against stealing dogs.
3. Maine
Maine, like Vermont, has many places for you to go adventuring with your dog. Once you’ve burnt some calories and need a meal, you can sit down at one of the hundreds of restaurants that let dogs in. Maine does make sure everyone’s comfortable, especially our canines.
4. Oregon
Oregon is one of the states with the highest number of pets, so it’s no wonder it’s the third on this list. Portland is an amazing place to take your dog, with more parks per capita than any other city in the U.S. We recommend taking your dog to have some fun with Spinreel Dune Buggy in North Bend.
5. Montana
With Yellowstone National Park within its borders, Montana offers amazing memories for you and your dog. Right by the national park is Montana Whitewater Rafting Co, where you and your dog can go rafting.
6. Colorado
Do you feel like pampering your dog just like a human for a change? Well, Colorado has a hotel that offers services for dogs, where they are waited on paw and foot. What could be better than that? Boulder is also considered one of the best cities for dogs and their owners.
Least Dog-Friendly States
Now that we’ve listed some of the best places for you and your pup, we will list two of the least-friendly states for dogs. These states may not be surprising, offering little in the way of services should your dog need them. But bear in mind: Even with these states being the lowest, if you live in a built-up area, you’re bound to find these services if you’re vigilant.
1. North Dakota
North Dakota nearly offers the least dog-friendly services, only topped by the next number on this list. If you’re looking for groomers or veterinarians, be aware that this state has less than the average.
2. Alaska
Alaska is a big state with one of the least dense populations in America. That means that services are spread fairly thin, which could get your dog into trouble if it needs something far away, like a vet.
