Technology has been advancing at a startling rate for the last century, and it’s only going to speed up. New tech companies are starting up every day, and while some might fizzle out, others are headed for greatness. From companies that have only cropped up in the last decade to technological giants that started the game, here are some of the most successful right now.
Microsoft
Everyone and their dad should know what Microsoft is. They’ve made long strides since their founding decades ago and are now most famous for their operating system – Windows. Nearly all laptops and pre-built personal computers (PC) come with Windows installed. They also offer Microsoft 365, which is a fully digital office suite complete with programs like Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Teams.
Apple
Apple got into its own when it started designing its own smartphones, complete with its in-house operating system. Apple also makes tablets, wearables, and personal computers. Their primary competitor in the smartphone space are Android devices. Still, iPhones have their loyal consumers who will live or die by their Apple devices.
Nvidia
Nvidia have been making computer graphics processing units for decades and are now the biggest manufacturer of GPUs. Their only competition is AMD but they still have the majority of the market. GPUs are important pieces of tech that many tech jobs use like graphic design, and 3D animation studios. Despite their commercial use, GPUs are still primarily used in computers so that consumers can play video games.
Amazon
Amazon is a global tech giant best known for its e-commerce platform, but it also has significant influence in cloud computing and AI. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is one of the largest cloud service providers, hosting everything from startups to major corporations. Additionally, the company is heavily involved in AI development, logistics technology, and the entertainment industry through its streaming platform, Amazon Prime Video. Amazon’s Alexa, a voice assistant powered by AI, is also a household name, competing with Google Assistant and Apple’s Siri.
Alphabet (Google)
Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google, is a powerhouse in various technology fields. Google remains the world’s most popular search engine and is a leader in online advertising through Google Ads. Beyond that, Alphabet has made huge strides in cloud computing with Google Cloud, and it is pushing forward in artificial intelligence and machine learning research. Alphabet also invests in cutting-edge projects like autonomous driving through its subsidiary Waymo and other “moonshot” initiatives under the X Development banner.
Meta Platforms (Facebook)
Meta, formerly known as Facebook, is at the forefront of social media and is positioning itself for future dominance in virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). Meta’s primary social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, reach billions of users worldwide. Through its Oculus division, Meta is heavily invested in VR, aiming to lead the development of the metaverse, a virtual world where people interact using digital avatars.
