Dogs crave love and attention from their owners, but sometimes, it can get a little out of hand. Some breeds are independent and do just fine on their own, while others need the undivided attention of their owners, especially if there are other dogs around. Jealous is a complex emotion in a dog which often reflects their loyalty, coupled with their insecurities. Jealousy usually stems from a deep emotional bond and an evolutionary instinct from their predecessors. Here are some of the most jealous breeds.

The Dachshund is a stubborn breed that’s also known for its jealous nature when there’s competition. They will try to follow their owners wherever they go and can start whining if they feel their being neglected. The reason behind their behavior is their heritage as a lapdog.

German Shepherd

Despite having the opposite history of being a lapdog, German Shepherds want constant attention from their owners. They are an intelligent and loyal breed that needs constant stimulation so as not to get bored. If they feel left out, they may bark or even become destructive.

Rottweilers are fiercely protective and loyal dogs that have a history in protection. This means that there are territorial dogs that size up other people and animals that get close to their owners. They can even put themselves between others and become quite possessive.

The Dogo Argentino is a hunting dog that creates close bonds with an entire family. They are an assertive breed that take what they want, meaning that they will nudge percieved threats away from their owner that aren’t a part of the pack.

Pugs are one of the most affectionate breeds and rely on human interaction above all else. They can easily feel ignored or neglected and can sulk as a result. They can become vocal if they want attention and even resort to pawing.

Chow Chows are heavily reliant on their owners for affection. Coupled with their territorial nature means that they are very demanding when it comes to attention. They will guard their and their owner’s space, meaning that they will be wary of guests and get jealous easily.

The Pomeranians are small and affectionate breeds that love sitting on their owner’s lap and spending time with them. If they feel jealous, which they do easily, they may start to growl or even nip other animals or people that make them feel threatened.

Labradors are extremely social animals but can easily feel jealous if the usual attention isn’t on them. They become deeply attached to their owners and can be very clingy as a result. They can lean or nudge to try to subtly get attention back to them.
