One of the most strange and elusive deep-sea creatures is the megamouth shark, which was discovered as late as 1976 and can grow to 18 feet. With its huge, wide open mouth and slow, ghost-like underwater movements, it is still one of the biggest mysteries of the ocean.
9. The Bigfin Squid: The Alien of the Deep
The Bigfin squid is one of the most strange and mystifying animals ever captured. With its long, thin arms that can stretch up to 20 feet, its appears as if it’s a ghostly puppet floating in the endless darkness. It has an alien and eery look, because unlike other squids, its tentacles are set at a sharp angle. This monster was first caught on camera in the 1980s, but it has rarely been seen since, adding to its mystery.
